The Department of International Studies and History hosted a distinguished guest lecture on February 25th 2019 with the title entitled “The relevance of Gandhi in contemporary world”, as a part of a series of events conducted to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of Nation. The chief guest for the day was Dr Gerald Pillay, Vice Chancellor Liverpool Hope University, who provided an enlightening talk on Gandhi and his relevance. He reminded the gathering that the major mistake that we as Indians undertake is to reduce Gandhi to just a political philosopher and the reluctant behavior to understand Gandhi beyond satyagraha and non-violence. He kept the talk alive and interesting by pointing out incidence from Gandhi’s life and by quoting Hind Swaraj. The highlight of the talk was when he quoted on how technological development is viewed as great achievement of mankind, but at the same time the moral standards of individuals who are heavily dependent on this technology is degrading.

Among other distinguished guest included Vice Chancellor, Rev. Dr. Fr Thomas c Mathew, Registrar, Dr. Anil Pinto , Director of Innovation center , Dr. Yeon, director student affairs, Dr.Fr Joseph cc, Deans, Head of  Departments, coordinators and other faculty members of the department. The lecture was attendant by all students under the department and other invited departments too. The welcome address was given by dean of humanities and social sciences Dr Tony Sam George, and later the question answer session was moderated by dean of humanities and social sciences Dr John Joseph Kennedy.
